JP was born in Italy. When the family moved to the U.S., he attended primary school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He then moved back to Italy to complete high school, and graduated with a Maestro D’Arte degree from the Instituto D’Arte in Palermo, Sicily. On his final return to the U.S., he became a citizen and attended college while working, graduating with honors from Rutgers University in New Jersey with degrees in Marketing and Communications.

After working for 17 years with E. R Squibb, the merger of Squibb and Bristol-Myers offered an opportunity for an early retirement and a career change. JP trained with "Housemaster of America" and graduated from The National Institute of Building Inspection.
