Description
Scott was born and raised just north of Dallas, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University where he, eventually, became a theatre major. It was the summer of his senior year, and third major, when he discovered theatre, and there has been no turning back.
Upon graduation, Scott took an internship with an Equity theatre in St. Petersburg, Florida, American Stage, working in their shop and stage managing. In his second season, he joined the staff of American Stage as a technician. After American Stage, Scott spent a brief time as the Technical Director for the Waco Performing Arts Company in Waco, Texas. It was while working in this restored Vaudeville house, that Scott decided to return to school to hone his design skills. He applied for and was granted an assistantship to Florida State University’s School of Theatre and began work on his MFA in Scenic Design. At FSU, he supervised the paint shop and designed the sets for Loot, Portrait Of A Woman, Our Town and, his thesis production, The Rover. Scott spent the summers of his graduate work with the Texas Shakespeare Festival. In his three seasons with the festival, Scott worked as carpenter, scenic painter, props designer and assistant scenic designer.
Scott’s first job with his MFA under his belt was as Resident Designer/Technical Director of the Weathervane Playhouse in Akron, Ohio. With the Weathervane, he designed 10 productions a year in rep with 2 or 3 children's productions. Productions during his tenure included Pygmalion, Translations, Conversations With My Father, Sweeney Todd, Annie, A Raisin In The Sun, Oleanna, Charlotte's Web and Hansel & Gretel.
