- For more than 20 years SCMC has been enhancing people’s lives through education, performance and therapy. Founded in 1985 by Judith Wharton, the Center began offering classes at the Madison Area YMCA. With the help of numerous professional and volunteer advisors and a dedicated Board of Directors, the Music Center developed a full program for students from preschool age to senior citizens. In the fall of 1986, the Music Center added a new branch at the Central Presbyterian Church in Summit. To meet the growing demands of the program, SCMC moved in September 1997 to our current home in Murray Hill, where we share modern studios, performance spaces and offices with the New Jersey Youth Symphony.
