Hi, my name's Gerry Carpenter, and I'm the guy behind Scifilm. This site is a one-man operation. The sole purpose for its existence is to celebrate science fiction, fantasy, horror, and special effects movies and to provide a forum where fans of those movies can come together. Check out my virtual mantel to see the awards the site has won.
I started Scifilm because I couldn't find what I wanted on the Internet. There were a million movie news sites out there and a ton of movie review sites, but none of them focused on what I liked—a broad variety of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and special effects movies in all their shapes and sizes. (See the links page for a list of my favorite sites.) I was disatisfied with what was out there, so I decided, "What the hell," and went for it. If I couldn't find what I wanted, I would just make it myself. So that's my story. Scifilm is my baby. I hope you like it here. If not, go start your own site, dammit!
Scifilm has grown phenomenally since its launch in April 2001, and I would be ungrateful if I didn't give credit where credit is due. The vast majority of the content on this site has been contributed by Scifilm readers. They are too many to name, but you will find their names credited on the many reviews and articles that have been written for the site. Thank you to each and everyone of you. Scifilm is truly a "fan" site thanks to your selfless efforts.
