D.M. Reid-Frow, B.Sc. (Hons.) also known as DJ Dave. David Reid-Frow was born in Gainsborough in 1963. DJ Dave was educated at Gainsborough Grammar School, New College Cardiff and The University of Manchester. Whilst an undergraduate DJ Dave entertained the underprivileged children of Moss Side at the Students Union. Across Oxford Road, at the Athletic Union DJ Dave represented the University at rugby league, as open head prop forward, gaining University Colours. At that time, as the club treasurer, DJ Dave balanced books, now DJ Dave takes different things into account when stilt walking. This balancing is one of the skills DJ Dave displays and teaches to children at the Laugh & Learn Circus Workshop. Vacation work presenting End of Term Funky Fun Discos, magic shows or Punch & Judy puppet pantomimes at school Christmas parties supplemented DJ Dave's student grant. During term time Manchester night clubs employed DJ Dave as a bouncer, slipping easily into the role with him already owning the obligatory evening dress although DJ Dave would never have lost the trouser knees if he'd carried on only wearing the suit to perform close-up magic. Threads last longer in DJs as a DJ. Today DJ Dave is no longer found on doors, but on the dance floor, as disc jockey at dance parties, responsible for the sound and lighting, not the security of night clubs. DJ Dave is a member of Equity (the actors' and variety artists' Union), the NOAC (National Outdoor Events Association) and the IBM (International Brotherhood of Magicians). Appearing on local radio, on television in "Wish You Were Here..." and in "Heart Beat" besides providing entertainment in holiday centres, shopping precincts, theatres, schools, clubs and children's birthday parties. Involving magic as an educational medium, built on first hand experience obtained as a teaching assistant at Cardiff Gypsy School, DJ Dave developed the cross curriculum Laugh and Learn programme, with shows on Recycling, Forces, Electricity, Road Safety, Dental Hygiene, Safety in the Home, Circus Skills, Puppetry and Magnets. DJ Dave decided to become a close-up conjurer after graduating as a Bachelor of Science with honours in Chemistry because both close-up cards and chemistry begin with a curly C.
