Scan2TeX
Description
We started working on Scan2TeX in March 2003, inspired by the SGA project initiated by Frank Calegari, Jim Borger and William Stein. They made scans of the work "Seminaire de Geometrie Algebrique" by Grothendieck, Deligne et al. (8000 pages of typewritten text) and made them available online. The next step, started by Bas Edixhoven is the Electronic SGA project. The aim is to convert the scans into LaTeX.
All this work is part of The Grothendieck Circle's goal, which is to "make publicly available (and in some cases translate) the material written by and about Alexandre Grothendieck, as well as to provide biographical material on Grothendieck's life and his origins."
We initially wrote Scan2TeX to assist the SGA project but now we are working on converting other mathematical manuscripts into LaTeX as well.
