It is no secret that young mothers often feel a disconnect between their individuality and their roles as caretakers for their children. When a child comes into the world, a woman’s center of gravity changes and the effect can be both deeply gratifying and incredibly disorienting. Sam & Bellie was conceived out of a desire to lessen some of the disconnect mothers experience by creating products that would appeal both to a mother’s sense of style as well as the practicality needed in caring for her children.
Sam & Bellie is a line of children's accessories that combines retro and Asian themes with an eclectic flair. The collection includes bibs, burp cloths, chalkmats, splatmats, placemats, aprons, and smocks. While the products themselves may seem “typical,” the creative concepts and fabrics that go into making them are anything but typical. Sam & Bellie does not take aesthetics for granted, and we understand that a funky and stylish burp cloth can make the experience just a little more enjoyable for the mom with a gassy baby on her shoulder!
The chalkmat has been a particularly popular item and is a perfect example of that balance between style and practicality. My husband and I love to dine out, but the restaurants we frequent are not very kid-friendly, especially when you have three children under the age of five. To say the least, it does not make for a relaxing evening.
