During the late 17th century, science had claimed an upper hand in the development of the society. The array of scientific inventions in the physical and chemical sciences was exhilarating. And, one such invention was that friction between phosphorus and sulphur made them to burst into flame. This postulate was tested by an English scientist Robert Boyle in the year 1680, paving the way for the invention of safety matches.
The concept of safety matches had taken shape and flourished into profitable business as it catered to the multiple essential needs of mankind for fire - lighting stove,candles,etc.
