Rotating Objects, Inc. was established in early 2003 and has patented a technology that will literally change the way we look at rotating objects. This technology can be applied to anything that rotates: Frisbee™-like objects, tops, yo-yos, wheels, hubcaps, and even fireworks!
Ultra-bright light sources (LED's or strobe lights) on a rotating object such as a Frisbee™ or yo-yo are made to appear stationary by being turned on and off in synchrony with the rotation of the object. This synchronization is achieved by sensing the instantaneous orientation of the object relative to the Earth's magnetic field. The rotating object thus requires no local, fixed reference (as in a magnetic or optical encoder) to determine its orientation. The result is a freely moving, self-powered, rotating or flying object with a light pattern or message that appears to stay absolutely stationary while the object is in motion. Rotating Objects' patented technology can be applied to rotating or reciprocating objects, alike.
