- Over one hundred and sixty years ago Bourne Spooner, a founder of the Plymouth Cordage Company, was authorized by their directors at its first meeting to construct this dwelling at a cost not to exceed eighteen hundred dollars. During these years it housed many people from all walks of life, including rope makers, nurses, teachers and craftsmen. It was a cultural meeting place also, and no doubt meetings for the Anti-Slavery movement took place here, as Bourne Spooner was an anti-slavery activist.
