- I’m a London based writer, and let’s face it there’s not many of us, oh no, that’s right, there’s loads. My stuff has appeared in The Independent, The Guardian, The Observer, The Independent on Sunday, and magazines such as Time Out, Olive, All Out Cricket and Tank, some of which even paid me. Oh, and I recently landed the job of being the technology columnist in The Independent. Before I decided – in a moment of ludicrous optimism – that I was a writer back in 2001, I worked in the music business for 10 years; as a result I have a withering contempt for nearly all bands, which many people, quite rightly, find rather annoying. Playlouder and The London Line, however, asked me to write reviews, and The Observer gave me a column called “Guitarist Wanted” in which I was made to audition for ambitious young groups, pretend I wanted to join, and then write about the whole traumatic experience in a national newspaper.
