Retinal Detachment
being worked upon
- Retina is a multi layered sensory tissue lining the back of the eye.It consists of photo- receptors named as rods and cones.
- Retinal detachments are caused by one or more holes or tears inside retina.Aging process simultaneously thins retina. The center of the eye is filled with vitreous body, when the vitreous body deteriorates it results in retinal tears or holes. The vitreous body is attached to the retina and when it shrinks it pulls a small section of retina with it leading to a formation of a tear. After this tear is developed ,the fluid from the vitreous body passes through between the retina and the back of the eye causing blurred images. The section of the retina which is separated will not work properly leading to a blind spot in vision.
- Retinal detachments are caused by tumours and diabetes
- Symptoms
- Apearence of large number of spots which appear to be floating loosely in eye
- Sensation of flashing light as the eye is moved
- Shadows beginning laterally growing in size and slowly reaching central vision
- Signs and Symptoms
- Treatment
- Using technique of pneumatic retinopexy
- The retinal detachment becomes total with in 6 months,if not reattached results in total vision loss. The retinal attachments are done through surgery.
