Description
1903 Adult Education courses were sponsored by the London County Council and operated in the Ilford area at the Higher Grade School (later Dane Junior High). Approximately 600 students attended a programme which included Shorthand, French, Millinery, Drawing, Book Making, Dressmaking, Arithmetic and Cookery.
1930s Creation of the large evening institute, the Ilford Literacy Institute, and finally the Redbridge Institute which is now the Valentines Evening Centre.
1950s - 1960s Substantial adult education provision was developed in partnership with the Local Education Authority, the local community and voluntary organisations, for example Wanstead House Community Association.
