ReCyclingFundRaiser.com - FREE Consumer Electronics & Jewelry Recycling Fundraiser!

About ReCyclingFundRaiser.com

Founded in 2001, Recycling Fundraiser is a leader in cell phone, jewelry, laptop/netbook computer, ink jet cartridge & consumer electronics recycling & fundraising. Working with over 40,000 schools, churches, corporations and community groups throughout the United States, Recycling Fundraiser is a leader in the large scale collection of electronic waste and scrap metal.

Over the years, our original focus has evolved and expanded well beyond that of simply recycling cell phones. Approximately 50% of all recycled metals in the U.S. are derived from consumer electronics recycling. Moreover, the average U.S. household owns 25 or so consumer electronics items, e.g. iPod(s), GPS unit, digital camera, digital picture frame, cell phone(s), netbook computer(s), etc. Moore’s Law, which states that the primary technologies incorporated in all of these devices doubles in speed every 18 months, drives a tremendous amount of turnover, i.e. everybody wants the latest, greatest gadget. The other 50% of recycled metals are derived from metal jewelry recycling. Shockingly, most major U.S. gold mines still utilize cyanide as a binding agent to extract gold from iron ore. By recycling broken or unwanted metal jewelry you are mitigating the devastating effects of strip / cyanide mining. On the one hand these facts, when considered together, are responsible for the growing problem of e-waste in municipal waste streams while on the other hand they represent a profitable recycling opportunity for schools, churches and other organizations.

Recycling Fundraiser's philosophy reflects a commitment to the environment and the community. We have also earmarked a portion of Recycling Fundraiser equity to support charities and service groups in our community. Moreover, we intend to take an active role in helping shape legislation already under consideration related to electronic waste. Environment

The production of consumer electronics (cell phones, laptops, iPods, etc.) and jewelry (rings, watches, necklaces, etc.) directly and negatively impacts the environment. Every phase in the life cycle of these products, from raw material extraction all the way to their end-of-life management, involves environmental degradation. For example, during the extraction phase, raw materials such as rare metals must be mined from the Earth (often with toxic chemicals), refined, transported and manufactured into products such as jewelry, cell phones, laptops, and other consumer electronics. Each of these phases uses tremendous amounts of energy and creates pollution from the burning of fossil fuels. When products such as these reach the end of their useful lives, the best choice is to properly and safely recycle them. That's where you can make a difference.

More than 80% of all the electronics we receive are reusable and are therefore tested, reconditioned and sold within the United States. The revenue generated from the resale of used consumer electronics helps pay for our warehouse rent, our repair technicians and our ability to pay schools, churches and businesses for an ever increasing number and variety of used and eventually hazardous consumer electronics. We do not receive any State or Federal aid.

The remaining 20% are de-manufactured in the state of Texas. Just as is the case with jewelry, consumer electronics contain more than 17 scarce and other non-ferrous metals - all of which are recoverable and more importantly reusable including silver, gold, platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium, indium, selenium, tellurium, antimony, tin, bismuth, arsenic and base metals such as lead, copper, nickel.

We do not export e-waste, we do not dump e-waste in landfills and we do not utilize prison labor. Our metals refinery partner is a Basel Action Network (BAN) e-Steward located nearby in Texas and is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified.

The mining of metals is the #1 cause of toxic pollution in the United States yet gold, silver and platinum are vital. Approximately 1,320,000 pounds of gold are used annually in telecommunications, information technology, medical treatments, and various industrial applications. Due to its high electrical conductivity, gold is a vital component of many consumer electronics devices including cell phones and laptop computers. Because it is non-toxic and biologically benign, gold is perfect for many medical applications. Surgeons use gold instruments to clear blocked coronary arteries and gold pellets are injected into the body to help obstruct the spread of prostate cancer in men.

In essence the same is true for other metals such as silver and platinum. Both metals are essential to our modern lives yet the excavation and processing of both wreaks havoc on the environment. Five months of production and 20,000 pounds of ore are needed to make a single ounce of platinum yet platinum is vital in everything from anti-cancer drugs and safety airbags in cars to clean fuel cell technology.

Fortunately, you can make a difference. By recycling items made of these vital metals you can earn money for your organization while simultaneously reducing toxic pollution.
