RecentChangesCamp 2008 Support Injection

Description
This is the first task in the much larger RecentChangesCamp 2008 project to ensure that RecentChangesCamp is a great event for the Wiki community in general and AboutUs specifically.
This task needs to happen NOW so that we can be sure that busy people get their first invitation in time to block out a space on their calendar.
How does this build community?
Of the three major annual wiki events, RecentChangesCamp is the most closely aligned with the spirit of AboutUs. RecentChangesCamp connects wiki and process technology people with community organizers.
Ideally we, the community that is caring for AboutUs, will come together from all over the world to meet each other and our kindred from other wikis face to face at RecentChangesCamp 2008. We'll build trust, exchange ideas, and barnraise some projects that energize the entire wiki community and further the AboutUs mission.
An ideal mix of folks includes thought leaders and "in the trenches" newbies and experts alike from the following communities:
- Wiki (all of them if possible)
- Community organizing
- Process Arts (open space, non-violent communication, appreciative inquiry, etc)
- Open Source (especially those who are leading successful projects)
- Online technology (those who write the blogs and articles that technology mavens read)
Done When
- The generic invitation is done and polished with buy-in from Eugene Eric Kim and the other conveners
- This of course means that the date/location is firmly established :-)
- A list of at least 20 "Notable" kindred spirits has been compiled, each name is complete with likely contact person (closest or most likely to garner a positive response), and contact information
Comments
I marked this Done Done because the reason behind this task has been accomplished even though none of these three points are finished. The idea here was that Portland isn't hosting, but that we have hosted in the past, so have a lot to offer, in terms of energy if nothing else. Since we started this task, the following have been accomplished, perhaps because of our support injection:
- $13,000 in sponsorships raised.
- At least 3 offers to host the wiki.
- Lots of discussion about venues.

Discussion
- This task is something I care a lot about. I'm committed to making sure something on RCC2008 happens in the October2007.2 iteration. I would like to scale back this task until it's something we know we can complete in that iteration. TedErnst | talk 08:58, 12 October 2007 (PDT)
- Idea: Invite Kristin Webb-Thomson to lunch or dinner when I'm in Portland to work on this. TedErnst | talk 08:58, 12 October 2007 (PDT)

Sanders, Eugene Eric Kim date Oct 12, 2007 11:18 AM subject doing some actual work together when I'm in Portland Kristin, While getting together socially is also great, Brandon and I were just talking about RCC2008 and were thinking about doing some actual work on http://www.aboutus.org/RCC_2008_Support_Injection Interested in taking the lead on this? No matter your answer, if you're interested in working on it, let's find a time to do some of that work together. peace, ted Eugene, I'd love to talk with you about what you're thinking about for RCC2008. I'm working at AboutUs.org now, so speak both for myself and the company when I say we want to get cracking on this. I don't think our getting started on this depends on you, but I also don't want to step on any toes, so let us know where things are from your end, and we can see where our energy can best be spent, okay? Is there a good time in the next few days to talk by phone? 312 371 6625. peace, ted http://AboutUs.org/TedErnst
