Aircraft Battery Connectors and Receptacles As the main termination on an aircraft battery, Rebling's battery receptacle plays an important role in the performance of the battery. Truck Battery Disconnector Application In 2004, a major class 8 truck manufacturer came to Rebling Power Connectors looking for an interconnect solution to solve a problem with their existing battery disconnector switch. In the cold weather regions of Alaska and Canada, truck drivers had trouble starting their vehicles. In order to get more power out of the batteries, the engineers wanted to reduce the resistance in the circuit. The existing battery disconnector switch had inconsistent and high resistance that reduced the amount of power available to start the vehicle. After looking at several battery connector types, they chose the 7017 Aircraft Batter Connector and 7002-3-107 Battery Receptacle as a set of high amperage connectors with low contact resistance.


Master Disconnect Switch In 2012, Rebling Power Connectors developed a Master Disconnect Switch to fill a void for land vehicles. While several other companies manufactured master disconnect switches for truck & other vehicle batteries, none had the consistent performance needed for newer vehicle designs with greater power requirements. As a long-time manufacturer of high current dc connectors, Rebling Power Connectors saw the master disconnect switch as a perfect fit for a company that specializes in high current applications.


NATO Plug as a High Current DC Connector The NATO plug, available in different cabling configurations, is widely used by military land vehicles such as the HMMWV. These vehicles carry the NATO slave power supply, and the NATO plug is the mating power connector. The NATO connector is simply a push-on design that enables the connection of auxiliary equipment to the onboard 24V power supply.


High Current Connectors for Utility Vehicles Although Rebling Power Connectors began its product line with aircraft battery connectors, land vehicles have become an important application for many new products. Ground Power Connector The standard 3 pin (and 6 pin) Ground Power Connectors found on most aircraft have been in use for decades. As a push-on high current DC connector, the popular 3 pin design has positive and negative sockets where most of the current flows, as well as a small positive socket and pin that is used to disconnect the load inside the aircraft during charging. While this simple design has served its purpose, Rebling Power Connectors has developed improvements that can be used in ground power connector or similar land vehicle applications.


EMI Shielding Applications for Power Connectors As the world moves towards technologies that incorporate an ever-increasing amount electronics which require greater electrical power, electromagnetic interference (EMI) is becoming an important issue for many industries. As a result, engineers need to examine their high amp connectors when designing for EMI shielding. While it is easy to make an electronics enclosure out of metal to prevent EMI from affecting electronics inside, it may not be so easy to account for EMI leakage through the high amp connectors going through the enclosure.


High Power Connectors: BMS The term "Battery Management Systems" (BMS) can have several different meanings depending on the application. However, it is basically a device which protects the battery from damage, prolongs the life of the battery, and monitors and maintains the charge of the battery so that it is ready to go when called upon to meet peak specifications. In order for a BMS to be useful and modular for load banks or large industrial batteries, it needs to have a high power connector or manual high current dc switch.
