In 1973, Ranson Stone & Marble Co. was founded by Ray Ranson. The company was located in South Charleston, WV, about 2 ¼ miles from our present location in Saint Albans. Ranson Stone & Marble sought to provide quality stone products to the Greater Charleston region. In 1975, Mr. Ranson bought and entered his young company into a partnership with Masonry Supply, Inc. The cooperating companies were now able to furnish not only stone products, but also brick, block, fireplace materials, and other building supplies.
Ranson Stone & Masonry Supply is now part of Baker Stone & Marble Company, owned and operated by Ray Ranson's daughter, Sherry Baker, and her family. Baker Stone & Marble was formed in 1999, when the Baker family purchased a stone center and fabrication shop in Huntington, WV, and in 2000, the two were combined. Now, Baker Stone & Marble Company has two full service stone centers, where we stock a wide variety of natural and man-made building stone products from across the United States. In addition to the natural building stones sold at both of our stone centers, Baker Stone now runs two fabrication shops - one specializing in limestone and architectural stone products, and another which focuses on marble, granite, and custom interior stone products.
Over the years, our focus has grown from traditional building supplies and stone to include custom-designed interior and architectural products; and, our operations have taken us to customers farther away from our base in the Greater Kanawha Valley. The Ranson and Baker families have not forgotten our community, though. We continue to support local athletics, our area schools, firefighters and police organizations, and our churches. Baker Stone & Marble Company and its owners are committed to good citizenship both as a local business and as individuals.
