The Good 5¢ Cigar is the only daily, student-run newspaper of the University of Rhode Island. We are committed to providing the university community with salient information regarding the on-campus issues and events, as well as providing information about the world around us.
We publish Tuesday through Friday while classes are in session with the help of approximately 15 news staff and 10 business personnel. Our offices are located in Room 125 of the Memorial Union.
If you are a full-time undergraduate student and interested in working for us in either a paid or non-paid position please feel free to stop by the office. We hold weekly staff meetings on Thursdays at 5 p.m. No journalism experience is necessary. We will train you in writing news, sports or entertainment or taking and editing photos. Working for the Cigar is a great way to become involved, meet interesting people and build a portfolio to show future employers.
