When her 9-year-old daughter picked up a dirty needle in the yard, Marjorie Sant knew it was time for a change. Months earlier, she and her children had fled her abusive husband and moved to a crime-ridden neighborhood in Fort Worth. Now they would need to move again.
Hoping to find a friendlier environment, the family relocated to North Carolina. But, says Marjorie, “Everything was an uphill battle. I was simply unprepared to face the world on my own.”
For a while, the family rented a roach-infested room in a boarding house. But when a concerned neighbor called Child Protective Services, Marjorie agreed to go to Raleigh Rescue Mission and reluctantly joined our Life Plan Program.
