- Hi, my name is Rajen and you don't know anyone quite like me. Those who can pronounce my name call me Rajen those who can't call me Raj. Whenever I go to restaurants the hostesses usually have fun with my name. I usually say my name is Raj and then watch them scribble down "R" "O" "G". Apparently they think Raj is short for Roger...but we know it's not. And then I try to correct them saying it's spelled "R" "A" "J" and then they write down "R" "H" "A". And then I say "No...It's R A J". And then they write down "R" "A" "G" bc the whole Roger thing is still stuck in their head. It's funny watching their facial expression here bc this is the point where their logic meets my name. They squint, shake their head usually by third letter they are committed to "G", end up writing it down and then erase it and write "J". I don't believe "Raj" has ever been written correctly on a reservation list without some sort of mild amusement for me or minor internal crisis for the friendly restaurant hostess.
