- Radio Port Douglas first went to air December 1999 (then owned by Jay Amundsen and Henry Ellison, current owners are Michael & Helen Gabour), and yes, we did indeed party like it was 1999. The first radio waves to emit from Port FM began their existence within an old single-watt transmitter, which at the time was broadcasting from an antenna fixed to the guttering of a private residence atop Flagstaff Hill. Early music playlists were basically comprised of the directors’ CD collections and any other music we could find lying around at the time.
