Peter Williams formed Telford Building Contractors in 1973, trading from an office in Wellington and soon became known for quality workmanship. This successful start led to the firm becoming a limited company three years later and moving to larger premises.
A derelict property in Ironbridge was purchased and converted into prestigious office accommodation. The company became established at Waterloo Street and carried out numerous contracts for local authorities and private individuals. It specialises in extensions and new house building producing top quality brickwork, carpentry and joinery. The skilled workforce also has extensive experience of piling, underpinning and structural repairs. Mr Williams rates the workforce as one of the firm's main assets. He said: "We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff, and have what only can be described as a loyal workforce. Our workmen are chosen not only for their skills but also for their pleasant manner, smart appearance and honesty." The client always comes first and with this in mind the company applied for membership of The Federation of Master Builder's Master Bond Warranty. It was already a member of The National House building Council and The Federation of Master Builders. In order to be accepted onto the Federation of Master Builders Warranty Register a firm has to meet certain criteria. For example recent completed contracts must be inspected and approved by the Registration Board, it must have at least three years trading experience and bankers references and relevant insurances must be produced. The warranty offered gives the client protection both while work is in progress and for up to ten years beyond completion. This is a great safeguard for the public.
The office operation expanded to accommodate Mrs Morris's son John ten years ago in a managerial capacity. The office is equipped with the latest technology and a fully computerised estimating system is in operation. Staff can also offer a full planning service or alternatively a complete design and build package is available, giving the client immediate knowledge of the total building costs. Over the past 5 years the team has seen turnover increase three fold and are really enthusiastic for the future.
