ProtoCAM: Rapid Prototyping, Stereolithography(SLA), Selective Laser Sintering(SLS), Additive Manufacturing

Description

ProtoCAM is the largest rapid prototyping service bureau in the Eastern United States, serving all of North America. ProtoCAM provides a unique blend of rapid prototyping services, prototype development, and manufacturing engineering consulting along with deep domain expertise in stereolithography and other advanced rapid prototyping techniques.

ProtoCAM produces the highest quality rapid prototypes and offers precision short run production (rapid manufacturing / additive manufacturing), along with both urethane-based and investment castings.

Additive Manufacturing

ProtoCAM is the Northeast's leading provider of additive manufacturing services using additive fabrication technologies such as stereolithography (SLA), selective laser sintering (SLS), and 3D printing. Additive manufacturing refers to the creation of production parts that are used in the final products, as opposed to prototypes used in the product development process.

There is much debate about how to refer to the processes and technologies of creating 3D parts and 3D prototypes from three dimensional digital data such as 3D CAD drawings. The discussion reflects the trend in how these items are being used, as more and more customers are now using the the items produced using "rapid prototyping" technologies as finished parts and components in production goods. As materials continue to improve and techniques continue to get better, "prototypes" are becoming "parts".

In general, additive fabrication technologies have clear benefits, such as creating parts with complex geometries and surface textures that could not be effectively done with other techniques.

Further, with the advancement of materials used in SLA and SLS, more items being produced are being used as the final product or the parts used in low-volume and custom production in addition to being used as the prototypes in the development process. This use has spawned more terms such as rapid manufacturing, digital manufacturing, and direct digital manufacturing (DDM).

Rapid Prototyping

ProtoCAM is a full service rapid prototyping service bureau using a wide range of rapid prototyping technologies and materials. ProtoCAM also offers rapid prototyping services like design, development and engineering to help you quickly move your rapid prototype from Concept to CAD model to Prototype to Product.

We offer the following services: Stereolithography (SLA) Prototype, Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Polyjet 3D Printing, 3D CAD Modeling, Rapid Prototyping Materials, Rapid Prototyping Machines, Rapid Manufacturing, Rapid Tooling, Injection Molding, RotoCAST, RTV Molding, Urethane Castings, Machined Castings, High Temperature Castings, Investment Castings, Prototype Castings, Prototype Development, Electroplating, Post Production Services and Videos.

The laser can be seen tracing each layer of the part, as the part is lowered into the resin. The completed part is then raised out of the resin tank, ready to be used.

Polyjet 3D Printing

3D printing rapid prototyping uses a 3D printing process to quickly make low quantities of rubber-like parts. Lead times for 3D prototype printing are typically 3-5 days. 3D prototype printing uses PolyJet technology to extrude a photo polymer from a printhead and cure it with a UV lamp.

The main advantage of this 3D printing rapid prototyping process is the fine layer thickness in the Z dimension allows small features along sidewalls and upfacing surfaces. It can use a wider range of materials, including the low durometer rubber-like TangoBlack and TangoGray. 3D printing is a relatively inexpensive rapid prototyping technology. 3D product printing is well-suited for parts with extremely fine detail that cannot be captured with stereolithography (SLA) or other rapid prototyping techniques.

See our PolyJet Materials page for details on the materials ProtoCAM uses for 3D printing to create 3D rapid prototypes.
