Prosveta Publishing House was established on 15 February 1945 by Decree of the National Assembly of the Bulgarian Kingdom. Until 1948, during the post-war years of political and economic upheaval, it was primarily engaged in providing textbooks for comprehensive schools, technical and vocational schools, and institutes for primary and junior high school teachers.
The late fifties saw the beginning of the Publishing House rapid development. Contemporary publishing technologies were introduced, funds were allocated for enhancing qualification and exchanging experience. That was the beginning of an upward trend, which has continued to this day. Prosveta started taking part at international book fairs, then followed the various awards for publishing achievements.
A standing practice from its establishment to date has been for the Publishing House to maintain close relations with the schools throughout the country. Representatives of the Publishing House meet school staff, attend classes, present new editions, discuss and approve textbooks in the training practice. The Publishing House is making an effort to help schools with teaching and other literature.
