Famously, Richard the Lionheart took possession during 1191-92 marrying Berengaria of Naverre in Limassol where she was crowned Queen of England. Most recently, Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974, and approximately 37% of the island is occupied, however since Cyprus entered the EU, a permanent resolution is imminent.
