Welcome to Pride Buffalo, Inc.

Description

Pride Buffalo, Inc. was founded in 1999 as a successor group to an unincorporated committee that had previously organized a gay lesbian bisexual and transgendered pride parade in Buffalo, New York.

Buffalo schedules the pride celebration in early June each year. In previous years the parade began in the city's gay district Allentown and ended at the downtown center in either Niagara or Lafayette squares. Currently, the parade moves north on Elmwood Avenue, one of the city's main commercial streets, an area that is outside the traditional gay neighborhoods of the city.

The first glbt pride parade was in 1994 and attracted three to four hundered people. The event has grown to an estimated 4,000 parade participants and spectators.

Organizers added a post parade rally to the event in 1995 that took place on the steps of Buffalo's city hall and marked the first year of the term of office of Buffalo's first gay friendly Mayor, Anthony Masiello.

The mission of Pride Buffalo, Inc. is to raise awareness and to recognize, celebrate and affirm the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people by sponsoring various events and celebrations.

Pride Buffalo, Inc. is committed to developing and maintaining an inclusive organization that honors the diverse people in our region and that enhances communication and cohesion among gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals, businesses and organizations.
