Description
In 1990 Fred Schaeffer heard from God. He had been praying for direction. As a successful businessman in Boston USA he knew the time was near for change. Fred is an entrepreneur. He successfully established North American distribution for well known sports manufacturers like Nordica, Puma and Fisher. In the 1970's he was founding president for Salomon / N. America. One of the world's largest manufacturers of ski equipment. As CEO he built Salomon into a $26 million business with 50 percent market share.
In the late 80's his friend, Christy Wilson, challenged him to think about missions. Late one night, not able to sleep, he began to pray. God spoke to Fred to go to Australia to evangelize. He asked, "But who Lord?" It was then that God began to speak to him about ministry with the Aboriginal community. In 1991 Fred and his wife Carol visited Australia. During this visit they came to understand the need for fruitful indigenous Christian enterprises.
While reading Luke 24 Fred was challenged by Jesus' priority to develop relationships. He discovered that Christian fellowship is tripartite. One to another with God. Jesus shows us how to develop strong relationships. First we must learn to walk together. Jesus walked with the disciples. We must learn to walk with one another, to ask intelligent questions, listen, speak the truth in love, restore one another to God, spend time together and to be hospitable. It is this pattern that Fred uses in his work here in Australia.
