PPR Diagnostics Ltd was established by scientists from King's College London in 1987. The company has expertise in the synthesis of fine chemicals and microbiology and has developed a number of products in these areas and also undertakes collaborative research and development with other companies. It markets a colorimetric diagnostic kit for the assay of NAG (N-acetyl-B-D-glucosaminidase), an early marker for renal damage due to nephrotoxic drugs, environmental pollutants or renal disease. It has developed chromogenic media for salmonella, Candida albicans and important Mycoplasma. It also markets a highly purified preparation of Diphencypro, used for the treatment of Alopaecia, which is supplied to pharmacists.

The Company undertakes custom synthesis of novel chromogenic enzyme substrates for diagnostic use in microbiological media and biochemical/clinical samples. Available substrates include a range of novel galactosides, esters, phosphates, glucosides, glucosaminides and a-maltosides. The company has been a recipient of two SMART awards and is currently supported by the Passport scheme, operated by the United Kingdom Trade and Investment Organisation.

Carries out custom synthesis for chemicals and is able to undertake joint research and development programmes and consultancy work in conjunction with other companies in the area of microbiology, chemistry, immunology and chemistry.
