The Power-Spar uses state of the art triple junction PV cells (also known as III-V cells) to convert the sunlight to electricity. These cells are currently available with efficiencies in excess of 35% and their efficiency is increasing at a tremendous rate (i.e., anticipated 45% by 2011). For the sake of comparison, the very best traditional monocrystalline cells have efficiencies of 21% (and module efficiencies of 19%).
