Hello. I am Gary S. Gillis, and have lived in Sarasota, Florida since 1973. I met my wife, Leslie, in 1976, and in June of 2007, we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. We are still members of the same church that we were married in over 30 years ago. Our home is located about 10 minutes east of I-75, and sits on 6 acres of paradise. A very rural setting, our property backs up to an over 10,000 acre ranch. In 1999, I opened my studio, and started my photography business. Then, in 2000 I studied under Monte Zucker, having been one of the most famous and sought after teachers and photographers in the world. He has since passed on, and is surely missed. The next year, I attended the Florida School of Professional Photography in Daytona Beach, Florida. Under the direction of Bruce Evenson who, like Monte Zucker, is a Master Photographer, I was able to expand my abilities greatly. After that, I had the privilege of working with Kalen Henderson, learning the best techniques to photograph High School Seniors. This was a great learning experience. Then I graduated a class on Marketing, taught by Greg Strangel. The following year, I took part in "Photo Shop", a class taught by Al Audleman. I also studied under Michael Taylor in a class involving posing and lighting. In 2006, John Woodward, who is an absolute genius on every aspect of lighting, facial analysis and composition, taught our class at Florida School of Professional Photography in Daytona Beach, Florida. During that same year, I received my F.E.D. (Florida Education Degree) and my C.P.P. (Certified Professional Photographer, of shich less than 2500 have earned that title of 25,000 members of P.P.A. (Professional Photographers of America)). And lastly, every year I attend school to keep up with all the newest and latest technology that is being used in my chosen profession.
My Full Service Studio is equipped with all of the latest state-of-the-art cameras, lighting, and equipment. I use digital capture, medium format, and 35 mm cameras. I can print, in-studio, up to 40 x 60 inch prints. The archival, pigmented ink I use in my photographs has a life expectancy of approximately 200 years. My studio also offers framing. I am primarily an environmental and "on-location" photographer, and my specialties are weddings and family portraiture, children and babies, and High School students, as well as pets. I enjoy my chosen profession, and want to create an enjoyable experience for my client as well. My focus is on capturing the uniqueness of each individual by using settings and backgrounds that reflect thier unique personalities.
