Title
Port Fairy Folk Festival
Description
Port Fairy is an old sea-side fishing and farming village looking out to the Southern Ocean waves rolling along the south-west coast of the state of Victoria. It was along this south coast of Australia that ships sailed in the early years of immigration. Many were wrecked on the rocks.
A fishing fleet still operates from the wharf on the river. The festival started in 1977 and from the start used various halls and historic venues. A huge arena now adds to the stock of venues.
In 2006, the Port Fairy Folk Festival Committee stages the 30th festival. The festival changed its timing from December to March in 1980 - two festivals were produced just three months apart.
