- The indoor plant display part of the business was established in 1982 although there has been a family connection with horticulture since the sixties. Bill Wheatley was employed at the time by a nursery business, Stuart Low Co. Bill developed the idea of the shop round: a truck based wholesale plant shop. While delivering plants to one florist, Bill was asked whether he knew to to reduce the dry atmosphere in a central London hairdressing salon. He suggested a water feature including a selection of houseplants. The florist asked Bill to install the display and when it was completed, many salon customers passed comment on how attractive it was. One customer was the wife of the president of an American bank. She asked Bill if he would attend to their garden in St.John’s Wood and he duly agreed. The husband was so pleased with the work he asked Bill to look at the bank’s City office garden. Bill again agreed and was soon involved in transforming an uninspiring garden in to an award winning feature.
