Description
After much conversation about koi, goldfish, watergardens, societies, fellowships, associations, and clubs, the Piedmont Koi and Watergarden Society came into being on May 1, 1992. At our first meeting, we agreed that our primary purpose would be fun and fellowship, and learning centered around everything mentioned above. The bi-laws state our purpose under section B -"to promote, create and enlarge the hobby of keeping, breeding, appreciating and exhibiting Koi; to disseminate information about the above to the membership; to engage in educational and social activities related to our purpose and to acquire such property as may be necessary for any or all of the ongoing purposes.
First officers were Steve Hamilton-President, Ron Moore-Vice President, Carol Scott-Secretary, and Terry Barber-Treasurer. These officers were the founding members but also included Trish Shepard, Paul & Hwaja McIntyre, and Ingo Schneider, and Terry & Mary Ellen McClain
At our second meeting held on July 28, 1992 we joined the Associated Koi Clubs of America and our first "road trip" was planned. These educational/shopping/pleasure excursions to area and long distance retailers and other AKCA member ponds proved to be the glue that set the "tone" for how the club meets today...."POND SOCIALS".
