- I became interested in Global Positioning devices in conjunction with my hobby of prospecting for gold. Many gold bearing claims are listed by their GPS coordinates and to accurately locate a claim I was supposed to be on the only way I could be sure was with a hand held device. By entering the data I could accurately locate myself on the proper claim and avoid being a "Claim Jumper". (In the old days people got shot for that offense).
