I've been a professional photographer for about 15 years now and I am still excited about learning new things. When I began studying photography in Florida in the eighties, I was interested in writing and photojournalism as well as creating my own unique arty images. This is still true for me. After graduating from school, I worked on a local newspaper in Fort Lauderdale as head photographer. I shot everything from the Little Miss Broward County Contest to Pavarotti at his "after the opera" party to Lifeguard Competitions to Paul Newman on the set of "Harry and Son" to American Cancer Fundraisers. You get the picture, right? The experience was wonderful and I loved the job. I also wrote stories, which was great fun for me. The picture (left) shows me covering a story for a TV show about a painting technique on public television.
I can tell you a little story that captures my feelings about photography. While teaching in middle schools, I attempted to explain how wonderful it is to take pictures. I told the girls that photography was better than boys and told the boys that photography was better than girls. They did not believe me. It is true though- my passion for photography has simply grown over the years and even though I have a very wonderful man in my life right now, photography is still the best. He understands and agrees with me. Perhaps it is because he is a photographer too.
