Photocoagulation

Laser Photocoagulation is a technique used to treat a number of eye conditions, including Diabetic Retinopathy and the wet form of Macular Degeneration. In treating Macular Degeneration, the laser light rays are trained upon harmful blood vessels located beneath the cornea. The laser cauterizes the blood vessels, thus preventing further leakage and loss of vision.

Laser Photocoagulation does not restore lost vision so it is imperative to treat the condition as early as possible.

The treatment is an outpatient procedure in which the patient remains conscious during the roughly thirty minute duration. Pain is mild and temporary. It is important to note that this procedure is not a cure, but it does temporarily prevent further loss of vision.
