Description
Photopolis equals Photographs/Metropolis equals photos of the City. I was born and bred in London, and apart from a year spent in California, have lived here all my life. This site exists because I want to share my love of London with you. All the photos shown here were taken by me, (except the one above!) and I designed the web site too. More categories and photos will be added as time permits so bookmark this page and check back periodically. Unfortunately though, I am only an amateur photographer and webmaster, so I don't have as much time as I would like to devote to Photopolis!
As the purpose of this web site is to display photos I've tried to keep the site itself simple and to optimize it to load as quickly as possible. There are no tables here! This is the third version of the Photopolis site, the first relied heavily on tables and while it looked OK at a resolution of 1024 by 768, when viewed at 800 by 600 it left a lot to be desired. In the second version I got rid of all the tables, using Cascading Style Sheets for positioning. I've been forced to make the images slightly smaller in this third version because of bandwidth problems. I'm using Server Side Includes to make the site easier to maintain and I now use CSS for all formatting as well as positioning. As far as I know the site works fine with a resolution of 800 by 600 or above on IE5 and above and on Netscape 6.2. and above
If this site seems really messy on your screen then the odds are you are using an early version of the Netscape browser. The good news is that you can get an up to date version of the browser for free. Click here to go to Netscape. I know its a chore but you will probably find there are more and more sites that don't work too well for you if you don't update your browser.
