Description
October 2003 marked the beginning of PFLAG's 30th year. One mother, Jeanne Manford marched in the 1972 New York City gay pride parade to support her gay son. This loving act led to the organization of support groups throughout the country. Our own Chapter had its beginning in 1980 and we have been involved in community support, advocacy and education since then.
At our regular Sunday meetings, generally the third Sunday of each month, we present an educational program on relevant topics from diverse community speakers. Following the program we enjoy refreshments and then form small discussion and support groups. Our meetings offer confidentiality, love and support.
PFLAG Philadelphia, also, provides a Helpline, 215-572-1833, for support between monthly meetings. Although the Helpline requires that you leave your name and number, it is monitored with concern for your confidentiality. Our Helpline Volunteers always return calls keeping ones confidentiality in mind. You can also call the Helpline for administrative needs and to reach our Speakers Bureau.
