Somerset Township Michigan is a growing community that is midway between three larger metropolitan areas of Jackson, Hillsdale, and Adrian Michigan in the southern most part of the state.
The area is largely lake residential with 17 lakes within the township and 6 of them developed into subdivisions. The remainder of the 36 square miles is generally rolling hills and farm land. The township is the headwaters of 4 of Michigan's larger rivers and they flow to both Lake Erie and Lake Michigan. Our 4,000 plus full time residents are generally employed in surrounding communities that include: Detroit, Ann Arbor, Toledo, Adrian, Hillsdale, Coldwater, Marshall, Albion, Jackson, Lansing, and other smaller communities. Two major highways bisect at the edge of the township and carry large amounts of truck traffic and vacationers. Irish Hills area is directly adjacent to the township and MIS speedway is only 3 miles away.
Our police department is small but efficient consisting of three full time officers and four part time officers and one auxiliary officer. We have two vehicles and a central dispatch at the county. Hillsdale is the County seat and is 22 miles away.
