About Childhood First
Childhood First has over 30 years’ experience of care, treatment and education of children and young people whose lives have been thrown off-course by neglect, deprivation or abuse.
Our organisation has developed from a therapeutic community based at the Peper Harow estate near Godalming: the Peper Harow community grew out of an approved school, where the regimen and structure were changed to create a caring community for troubled and challenging young people.
Over time our organisation has outgrown its original home and developed in many ways. However, we are still dedicated to providing care, education and treatment for young people. Our work is based on psychodynamic principles, and our centres work with troubled and vulnerable children and young people to help them to overcome early life trauma.
