Recent Reports of Fraud
Although People PC offers a strong product, the company has quickly been building a reputation for fraudulent actions. The fraudulent reports are increasing rapidly and People PC has not yet addressed the issue.
Numerous consumer websites are available (run a Google search) that involve scores of victims. People PC appears to have outsourced much of its customer service to a company in India that would rather gather commission than comply with customer requests.
Here's the scheme: If a customer calls to cancel, customer service attempts to convince the consumer to cancel by offering a free month of service. However, if the customer insists on canceling his/her account, People PC informs the customer (over the phone) that the account has been canceled.
Two months later, the customer discovers re-occurring charges billed to the credit card on record. If a customer calls to complain, he/she is usually greeted by a representative that insists that the customer did not cancel. The representative then asks for the customer's original cancellation number (which was never provided at the time of the cancellation request). People PC does not appear to have a local number where complaints are reliably addressed.
When canceling People PC service, customers should call their bank to change the credit card number. Most banks are willing to reissue a new credit card with a different number, keeping the bank account intact.
Victims are encouraged to file complaints with the Chamber of Commerce/Attorney General/Division of Consumer Protection in California. People PC headquarters is in San Francisco.
