Description

The Pelham Public Library is a full service library located adjacent to Pelham City Hall. A variety of books, videos, and audio materials are on hand for every age group. In May 1999 the library finished a complete renovation of the facility. The 12,000 square foot facility occupies two floors with separate departments for children, popular materials, and reference. In April 2001, the library was one of only four public libraries in the state recognized for excellence in library service by the Alabama Library Association. Pelham received a "Three Star Rating" for meeting seventy-one criteria signifying superior library service. In April 2005, the library was awarded "Blue Ribbon Library" status by the Alabama Library Association. This is the highest award recognizing excellence in library service. The Pelham Public Library is one of only seven public libraries in the state to receive this designation.

Storyhour programs for preschool children are presented every Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Special programs for school-aged children are offered periodically during the school year and during the summer in a Summer Reading Program. A new program being offered is Junior Librarians for children in grades 6-8. Junior Librarians are library volunteers who assist the librarians with programs and other activities.

The Pelham Library provides programming for area senior citizens at the Pelham Senior Citizens' Center located at 50 Racquet Club Pkwy. The Center is open 10 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday and offers a variety of programs including crafts, dancing, exercise, drawing, bridge, games, singing and much more.
