On stud farms the fencing and gates perform a very important function. They represent a long term investment made to protect assets in the form of stallions, mares and foals. To ensure that these are protected in the best possible way it is important that the fencing and gates used will not fail from impact from horses or cattle, will not fail through rot or insect attack, will last an average lifetime and will be pleasing to the eye in a country setting. P.D.M’s supply of pressure impregnated fencing and gates meets all the criteria by using the best quality materials and fully impregnating them with creosote by a hot vacuum/pressure impregnation process which gives the familiar dark brown or black colour and an expected life of a least 40 years.
All fencing and gates supplied by P.D.M. Ltd., are manufactured from carefully selected Homegrown Larch, Douglas Fir or Pine, or from specially imported Scandinavian Pine.
Before impregnation, all timbers are carefully air or kiln dried to ensure that the impregnation process will give the maximum penetration of creosote into the timber to impart the long life required. All softwoods grown in northern Europe, other than the Spruces, after properly controlled pressure impregnation with hot creosote, will have a life expectation of at least forty years when in service as post and rail fencing.
