- pbxnsip is a spinoff from snom technologies, a maker of IP phones based in Berlin Germany. In the late 90's snom began making IP phones and there were no affordable products on the market available that they could test the phones with. Due to this they created their own SIP Proxy server that mapped IP addresses to phone numbers. It also handles SIP registrations, next hop routing via the dial plan. During 2000 and 2001 the customers of their IP phones also needed something to test with so they started selling the snom 4S proxy server commercially.
