== FORMER MAYOR [ROBERT A. PAULSON] ANNOUNCES BID FOR SOLON’S TOP SEAT ==

SOLON, OHIO -- March 6, 2009-- Former Solon Mayor Bob Paulson announced today that he will ask voters to return him to the position he held for three terms from 1987-97 stressing the need for a hands-on city manager again in the mayor’s office.

“I believe that our current City officials have lacked central coordination and direction,” Paulson said. “We just can’t take another four years where the person in charge doesn’t take charge.”

Paulson pointed to the confusion surrounding the 2008 Central Park rezoning issue and the current Briar Hill Lake debate as examples. This week it was revealed after months of debate that no one really knew ODNR’s true position on breaching the lake’s dam. “Every week new embarrassing twists and revelations make city officials look like they have little or no clue as to what they are doing.

Paulson says he has a defined and specific platform for his re-election bid:

Provide strong leadership with proven city management skills and principles. “I’d rather be known as an informed, astute administrator than a smooth –talking politician. I was known as a go-to leader before and will be so again.”

Careful stewardship of city funds. Stop wasteful, foolish spending and mismanagement. “Last year our city officials spent at least $750,000 in Central Park-related studies and legal fees without a signed development agreement from Coral Company. In 2006 they paid $1,550,000 for land from McGill Aquisitions and then learned it has numerous wetlands and could not be developed. This is inexcusable and cavalier management of the city coffers.

Advocate staunch fiscal conservatism “Just two months ago City officials were boasting how much money the city had because of strong income tax collections. After income tax receipts dropped in February City officials suddenly became alarmed. Finance Chair Susan Drucker recently admitted ‘we pretty much had a spending spree the past few years.’ Given obvious national economic challenges, didn’t our elected officials see the trickle down coming before they bought $320,000 in golf carts?”

Make Police, Fire and essential City Services a top priority “I will provide for the constant betterment of our safety forces and our basic City services. I will provide a safe and efficient community, where your health, safety and well being are considered a top priority. I won’t skimp on adequate staffing or even road salt. Nothing is more important than the safety of you and your loved ones”.

Help Solon’s business and industry “Within my first 90 days in office, I will visit all the major CEOs in Solon’s business community to determine what the city can do to help grow their businesses. Our industrial area has been a vital part of Solon for years and we better take good care of these businesses. I will craft a plan with our retail community, including landlords and retail operators, to maximize the benefits of their investments and provide for the needs our residents.”

Reinstate key city boards and commissions “City officials abolished almost all city boards and commissions over the past two years. I protested those actions at the time and would restore a number of them. I cannot understand why our current leaders would want to discourage citizen participation in the governmental process.

Paulson has an established record of challenging city council once again to allow citizens to speak at the beginning and the end of council meetings to encourage citizen participation.

Groom future leaders in Solon’s government “I believe Solon needs to cultivate the future leaders of our community. We need to begin to develop a farm team. Eliminating citizen boards and commissions was an impediment to this development. That is where residents learn about city government and then decide to run for elected office. I don’t want to eliminate potential competition but to prepare it. I would be very happy to be known for mentoring Solon’s future leaders.”
