Welcome to Companion Parrot Connection, Inc.

Description

Companion Parrot Connection, Inc. (CPC) is a charitable organization concerned with the health and welfare of companion and wild parrots. The roots of the organization reach back to 2000 when Executive Director Coleen Doucette began responding to an influx of surrendered companion parrots at a Northern California wildlife facility. Because companion parrots are a unique group of birds whose specialized needs are rarely recognized or understood, the need for owner education and companion parrot rescue became more apparent. CPC was incorporated in May 2002, and received federal 501(c)(3) non-profit status in November 2004.

CPC strives to provide support and resources to shelters, parrot owners and prospective parrot owners. Of the parrots that CPC acquires from the public or animal shelters, approximately half are in distress from unsuitable care and living conditions, neglect or outright abuse. Additionally, because of the special and often unappreciated needs of caring for an exotic bird, the typical parrot may see an average of seven different homes in its first five years. As such, CPC takes a holistic approach to influencing companion parrots’ quality of life by providing for the unmet needs of community education, rehabilitation of rescued and surrendered birds, behavioral evaluation and training and placement to suitable, long-term homes. CPC’s dedicated volunteer staff provides education, animal care, foster homes, adoption placement and organizational management
