Title

Parrot Tree Plantation

Description

Only 30 miles long and three miles wide, slender Roatan is the largest of eight islands and more than 60 cays that make up the Bay Islands of Honduras (Las islas de la Bahía). These islands are sheltered by a spectacular fringing reef system, the second largest in the world.

You'll receive a warm greeting from our friendly, bilingual (English & Spanish) population, a cultural mix descended from Paya Indians, English colonists, Spanish explorers, privateers of many nations, freed African slaves, Black Caribs, Central and North Americans.

Although Roatan is the most commercially developed and heavily populated of the islands, a large part of the island's mountainous terrain is uninhabited. Development has begun to alter lifestyles and living standards, yet thatched huts and dugout canoes are still a common sight.
