Santaris Pharma is a research and development company in the pharmaceutical sector. We focus on products for the treatment of cancer and our mission is to bring to market new and better medicines with the potential to improve outcomes for patients with malignant disease. This is a challenging area of medicine and yet one where there is serious unmet medical need. Many cancers are still treated poorly today and for some patients there are no satisfactory medical approaches to the therapy of their disease.
Santaris Pharma has a number of innovative new drugs in development, which target specific intracellular messages associated with malignancy in cancer cells. The technology that underpin their activity is our proprietary, very high affinity LNA antisense chemistry. The highly potent agents that result are designed to seek out and destroy mechanisms in the cancer cell that are thought to be important in the disease. It is too early to say yet how successful this approach will be but we aim to have the first of our potential new drugs in human clinical trials by the end of 2004.
