- The Village of Palmetto is a small quaint village located in the northeast corner of St. Landry Parish in the state of Louisiana. We are located near the center of a triangle formed by the cities of Alexandria to the North, Baton Rouge, the state capital, to the East, and Lafayette to the South, being approximately 55 miles from each of the three. The Village was settled in the year 1888 and has a rich history. The walls of the town hall hold old photographs and old newspaper clippings dating back to 1857. Business receipts from age-old businesses, photographs of the 1927 flood, and vivid descriptions of ancient gunfights are displayed in close proximity. The roots of the early settlers are traced up through and including some of the present day families still living in the area.
