About the webmaster
General growing up-ness mainly happened in Carmel, California, USA. My parents divorced, so I spent most of my teenage years living with my mom and sisters. Then I was off to college at Westmont in Santa Barbara. That was a mess. Westmont is a small Christian college that was wonderful my first year, apparently because I was a white man at a 96% white college. When I came back for my second year, I brought my fiance, who is Asian. All hell broke loose, and we ended up transferring to Monterey Peninsula College, then finally to Sonoma State University.
I eventually dropped out of SSU and went full-time as a DJ. That sucked. So I eventually dropped that and pursued the Web full-time. That didn't suck. I ran WEBsurf magazine for a while, eventually setting it aside when Borland hired me. After Borland, I joined Actuate. But Actuate had the most heinous managers on earth. One of my supervisors actually pulled me into an office to show me a video of a woman having sex with a horse. I was pretty sure at that point that these were people I didn't like working for.
Around this time, I became a father for the first time. And I moved to Silicon Valley. Eventually I hooked up with Sabeer Bhatia (the guy who sold hotmail.com to Microsoft for $400 million). But Sabeer's new company went belly up, so I took a job at SST for a few years.
